Strategy Details

The Equine Health and Welfare Strategy for Great Britain, is supported by the minimum standards of care for horses, ponies and donkeys as agreed by the equine industry in the Equine Industry Welfare Guidelines Compendium. which also sets out UK and European law relating to horses whilst taking into account the different uses which horses have and also the different types of care and management regimes under which they are kept.

In working on the Equine Health & Welfare Strategy the working group took into account the fact that the maintenance of a healthy horse is important to the economy of the industry to ensure that this economy is maintained.  It is envisaged that it will underpin The Strategy for the Horse Industry in England and Wales which was developed by the British Horse Industry Confederation in partnership with Government, and sets out a vision of where the industry aspires to be within ten years.
